HOW TO BALANCE LIFE WHILE BEING OVERWHELMED
Life seems to be chaotic and out-of-balance everywhere you look and listen. There is so much division, anger, violence, and unrest. People are sick more than ever. There are tornadoes, storms, fires, and hurricanes are roaring through the land. Wars and rumors of wars ring out into the atmosphere. So much evil is lurking. It’s as if there is a battle going on against ungodly influences. This is also known as spiritual warfare. It feels as if life’s load is getting heavier and life’s merry-go-round is spinning faster.
Life, at this point and time, is more overwhelming than before. Some things we may not have control over; however we do have control over our thoughts, deeds, and actions. That’s where we can balance life in the midst of being overwhelmed. Here are some things to consider:
First and foremost, the Bible tells us to bring every thought into submission and under the will of God.
Doubts, fears, and stinking thinking should be evaluated and redirected. Reverse it! Rebuke it!
Learning how to center thoughts and actions result in balance. Find and think about things that make your smile.
Implement practical steps that will enhance balance i.e. praying, meditation on scripture, and rejecting and replacing sinful reasoning with God-centered thinking. This is where your power to overcome being overwhelmed kicks in.
Learning how to say “no” to others and “yes” to self more also brings balance. Indulge yourself in things you like and want to do. Read self-help books. Listen to your favorite song, draw, write, travel, dance, laugh…do whatever makes you happy.
Place attention and time on God first, yourself, and then others. This is a sure way of not becoming burned out and overwhelmed.
Watch the news, listen to others, and pray about it. Leave it all right there with God.
Acknowledge that life is chaotic and out-of-balance; but also realize that God is still in control and He is the one who will bring change - in His timing. In the meantime, make someone’s day - hang out with a child or visit a home-bound senior citizen.
“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.” Galatians 6:9
Don’t forget to live life and don’t let life live you.
