ARE YOU OPEN TO CHANGE IN THE MIDST OF LIFE CHANGES?
Change Charles Swindoll said, “We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes.”
Life changes will happen whether you want it or not. It happens by choice - our choices as well as other's choices. Change also happens automatically. Time changes every second. We grow older every second. Health changes. The chaos in the world...political, racial, cultural, and psychological is rapidly bringing about radical changes.
Some are more drastic than others. We may not have control over many of those changes; but we do have control and can make choices referencing changes in our individual lives.
The other day, as I talked with a family member who was recently diagnosed with cancer, I encouraged her to make the best of the situation that has changed her life. We discussed whether she would wear a wig because her hair had fallen out. Hair falling out was an automatic change for her - once she started her treatment. However, I encouraged her to change something else in her life - do something different by her own choice. "Focus on things you have a desire to do, but never did," I suggested. In closing, I presented a question, "Will the desired change add value to your current state of mind, your happiness, ...your life?
